FUNGUARS
Funguar are mushrooms at heart, found predominantly in permanent damps such as deep forests, along riverbeds, and in caverns; but they are found in such far-flung places from one another, across arid wastes, naturalists oft wonder at how they spread. (1)
And that spread oft causes quite the problem for farmers and travelers; the spores they exude are poison to Man and his crops alike, and though their caps are quite the delicacy in general, few people would care much for an all-funguar diet. (2)

Funguar can indeed be hunted for food, and their sporelings, called "shriekshrooms", are much prized by alchemists for growth formulae. (3) Perhaps their growth properties lent themselves, for a time, to the Lalafellin practice of consuming them and temporarily increasing vitality (and who, allegedly, find that it tastes divine). (4)

FOREST FUNGUAR
Forest funguar have long been a "managed" wildlife in the Central Shroud, as without man's interference, they will spread and choke out all other life in an area. However, the changes in the star since the Seventh Umbral Calamity seem to have altered their spawning seasons, and now they are a perennial nuisance. (2)
Young adventurers, therefore, are oft tasked with the "management" that the Gods' Quiver are spread too thin to perform themselves. (2) (5)

STUMBLING FUNGUAR
For a time, the species known as "stumbling" funguar was thought extinct. However, it would seem that they are entirely too stubborn to die out, popping up to harass hunters who are busily culling other nuisances. (6)(7)
This is not to say they have not their uses. Wood Wailers spend several moons breathing in the spores from harvested funguar gills, to immunize themselves to a variety of deadly poisons. Thus, the frilly underbits of stumbling funguar caps are prized, and oft sought through levequest. (8)
