Bandersnatches

Few are the creatures that can prove a match for a dragon; but the bandersnatch is one of them. Wyverns and bandersnatches have been seen to do battle in the wilds of the Dravanian Forelands, with the latter coming out the victors. Something that fierce need never rely upon stealth and cunning, but brute force, dashing headlong and overthwart to seize its prey and claw and bite it to death. (1)

Naturally, this means that man has the irresistible urge to try to subdue and tame it. However, to date, the nearest outcome to "success" has been simply not to end up in well-chewed bits on the floor. (1)

Bandersnatches hunt in packs, though they will drive out any member who, ironically, gets too hungry. (2)

Known species/types of bandersnatch:

- Pantera
- Bandersnatch
- Bounding bandersnatch
- Bognarious bandersnatch
- Bozjan bandersnatch

- Gruntamulous Dindergrabble
- Masterful bandersnatch
- Thextera
- Glawackus
- Marchosias

bognarious bandersnatch

It's not quite clear what makes the difference between a golden bandersnatch and a bognarious one--mostly because nobody can explain what, exactly, "bognarious" means, other than "bandersnatches who are at odds with thunder dragons". On occasion, the beastkin's peace is disturbed by movement from the dragons who dwell around the Iron Feast, and of course, this means war. The dragons are still deemed the greater threat, when one must take sides.(3)

(3) FATE: Come to My Arms

Habitats:
- The Dravanian Forelands, the Iron Feast

Combat Rating: 54

bounding bandersnatch

Bandersnatches do not much like to linger near the gates of Tailfeather--partly because of the resistance they meet from the chocobo hunters therein, and partly because adventurers like to slay them for their noisome nuggets. Lest the reader misunderstand what these are: noisome nuggets are pellets that dissolve upon impact into smoke so offensive to the nose, that even voidsent imps cannot maintain their glamoured disguises. (4)

(4) Levequest: Quit Loafing Around

Habitats:
- The Dravanian Forelands, Tailfeather (levequest only)

Combat Rating: 52

Glawackus

The bandersnatch is eternally ravenous, but even they have standards, it seems. Glawackus was entirely too hungry for his packmates, and so they drove him out. Now, he roams the Dravanian Forelands, slaying and eating whatever takes his fancy--mostly chocobo hatchlings, to the dismay of the hunters and herders. (2)

(2) FATE: Glawackus On, Glawackus Off

Habitats:
- The Dravanian Forelands, the Hundred Throes

Combat Rating: 52

Special notes:

Glawackus has no special attacks beyond what his fellow bandersnatches can perform, but to be sure, they are much more powerful.

pantera

Panteras stalk the upper reaches of the Peaks of Gyr Abania, and oft cause trouble for those who seek to draw water at Wightrock. (5) Clan Centurio sets forth bounties on the beasts--assuming one can return to collect, of course. (6)

(5) FATE: Mouth for Water
(6) Centurio hunt: Pantera

Habitats:
- The Peaks, Miriam's Luck
- The Peaks, Goodblade (FATE only)

Combat Rating: 68

Special notes:

Unlike many of its kind, the pantera has abandoned the use of its frumious jaws in favor of unleashing a dark fire spell upon its foes, in a circle in front of it. Its claws do still catch, though, in a forehand swing.

thextera

The bandersnatch is a pack hunter, but some will be driven out, and others choose to go their own way. Thextera hunts alone, falling upon the caravans that connect Tailfeather with Ishgard--consuming foodstuffs, chocobos, and travelers alike. (7)

(7) Centurio hunt: Thextera

Habitats:
- The Dravanian Forelands, various (locations courtesy FFXIVHunt.com)

Combat Rating: 60, B rank

Special notes:

Thextera has no special attacks beyond what his fellow bandersnatches can perform, but to be sure, they are much more powerful.
